The Key To My Heart
Chapter 6
I hear a faint sound of someone blaring. I
walk towards where the sound is coming from and I witness Linda on the ground,
whining in pain while groping both of her legs. Oh my god. I run to her and try
to help her but its no use. I’m just a spirit; I can’t touch or feel her. Shit!
Come on, Evan where are you! And just then Evan comes running from behind the
bushes.
‘Oh my gosh, what’s wrong Linda, speak up
Linda, I won’t know anything until and unless….’
Oh for god’s sake dumbass, she broke her
leg. Hurry up. I interrupt in the middle of his stupid speech.
He runs toward the village with unconscious
Linda in his arms. I run after them. Evan only stops when he reaches the
hospital. He lies her down on one of the stretcher’s. He calls for a nurse and
they take her into the operation theatre instantly. Evan looks overwhelmed and
he calls his parents to come to the hospital straightaway and he hangs up.
‘Yes, of course, Evan asks his dad to pay
the medical bills but his dad has hated her since the Linda’s mom gave birth to
her.’ the old man utters.
‘Dad, please, I will do anything, if you
pay the medical bills. Please, I beg you, she is the only one I lo…’ his dad
slaps him.
‘Don’t you dare say that. You do not love
her. You can’t love her. Never ever should I hear what I heard back then.’
‘God dammit dad, can you just please the
pay bills!’ Evan practically screams at his dad. Evans mom then grabs his dad’s
arm, and drags him to the other side of the hall.
‘The mom basically never hated Linda. She was
a religious person and believed in all miracles except his dad.’ I hear the old
man but then again, his voice just disappears.
Evan ruffles through his hair and walks up
and down the hallway. Tears started welling up in his eyes and each drop of
tear was heavy with pain and fear.
The right side of my brain is gluing the
bricks of the story together but the left side is just blurry with minute
episodes of my past.
I sit down on one of the benches beside
Evan and lean my head backwards… I know something very important but I just
can’t put my finger on it. It just doesn’t ring a bell at all. As soon as I
shut my eyelids, the surgeon walks out of the operation theatre and Evan runs
up to him.
‘Doctor, Is Linda
ok?’
‘I’m afraid she won’t be able to use her
legs anymore. Her right leg is damaged severely and her left leg is slightly
better. She broke both of her legs and she may not be able to walk for the rest
of her life.’
