Bittersweet Goodbyes
Chapter 7(Last chapter)
'Jack Miller, come
forward.’ Judge Judy mandates.
My dad walks up into that little balcony
where I was standing.
‘Mr. Lowell, you
may begin your inquisition.’
‘Ok
Mr. Jack. Been a long time isn’t it? So you’re accused of committing a murder
and the court is in no denial that you have not committed this crime. We would
like to straighten things out easily avoiding any unnecessary arguments. Please
refrain from any violence or verbal abuse towards the defense party. You may
begin to explain yourself for murdering Rain.’
‘He took away my wife!’
‘No, you divorced her. After your business
was sky rocketing, you started ignoring your wife, your family and you weren’t
home most of the time. Your daughter Emma told us a lot the lifestyle you
lived. Most of the time you weren’t home. You were out with your clients. I
mean that’s agreeable but staying out all night? What was all that?’
‘I…
I was having an affair with one of my clients. She liked me a lot and we
were both wealthy and young, so in that
moment, I just forgot about Rena and Emma and then she wanted to marry me so I
divorced Rena. On the day of our marriage, I realized what am I doing? I
started thinking about Rena and Emma. I went to see her but I saw him with Jack
so I came back. From then on wards.. I suffered all alone, thinking about her
every day, I couldn’t take it. Two years, I was torturing myself for two years
straight… I was going crazy until one day I heard about Rain. She was five by
the time I heard about her birth.’
Oh my god. Is this my dad? I can’t believe
it. Rain…
‘That’s when it hit me. Jack took something
precious from me, now it’s my turn for revenge.’ My dad diabolically answers.
My heart stops beating for a second. He
said the same thing the day Rain… was murdered.
‘You gave her away. Why are you blaming
Jack for this? Why did you take an innocent life to get rid of your own
misery?’
‘I was jealous! Jealous of the happy
family. Why should they be happy when I am in misery? So my decision-’
‘Your decision was terrible. And for that
now you are going to be jailed for a few years. Enjoy your stay. No further
questions your honor,’ responded Lowell.
‘I hear you. I will be giving my verdict
after two hours. Until then, court is dismissed'
We come back to court to hear the Judge’s
decision. I know that we are finally going to be happy but I want someone to
tell me that you are going to be living a healthy, happy and a prosperous life.
‘I’ve already given out the reprimands for
the other witnesses. With other reasons considered, I’ve decided to confine Mr.
Jack Miller for 20 years. The bank will have the authority to legally own the
business as the bank loans of Millers Enterprise are pending and the company
will be owned by the banks as it was set up for collateral. With all the
penalties announced, I hereby close this case with the defense party in
triumph.’
I look at my mom as she looks at me with
tears dripping down her eyes. Her eyes, full of comfort and affection, it’s as
if love never disappeared from her life.
‘Mom, let go home.’
I take her hand and we both walk out of the
court with ecstasy filled in our hearts. I look up at the bright blue sky with
the sun gleaming in the infinite vast sky. Rain you will forever remain in my
heart, a part of my soul, and a regret I’ll never forget. I hope you can forgive me. I wanted to give you the world but I couldn’t. Without
you, this world is empty. I want to live in a world where I can see you smile
and laugh. But that is impossible. Someday we will meet again, in the form of
spirits, in the form of lifeless souls but we will. I can’t wait to see you
again. Bye… Rain.
The End.
